What is Tense?

Ans: Tense is the Time of Action.

How many kinds of Tenses are there?

Ans: There are 3 main kinds of Tenses.

  PRESENT, PAST & FUTURE TENSE

Definitions of Sub-Kinds:

a)Indefinite means time is not exact or definite.
b)Continuous means Action that goes on without stopping.
c)Perfect means Action which is perfectly completed or done but has its effect in present.
d)Perfect Continuous means Action which started in the past and is continuing.

THE PRESENT TENSE
a)Simple Present = Action done in the present time but exact time is not mentioned. Simple Present tense also expresses a habit, universal truth (maxims) or a geographical fact.

  E.G. – Mother cooks food. (Habit)

b) Present Continuous = Action that is happening or going on now or in the present time.

  E.G. = Mother is cooking food.

q Formula = am /is / are + verb + ing
c) Present Perfect = Action that completed in the past and still has its effect in the present.

  E.G. Mother has cooked food.

q Formula = Has / Have + Verb 3rd Form  

d) Present Perfect Continuous = Action which started in the past and is going on in the present.

  E.G. = Mother has been cooking food.
